Doug Ford just pre-announced a new Great Wolf Lodge for Cornwall, Ontario with MPP Nolan Quinn.

Worth noting that this will be built on PRIVATE land that Great Wolf Resorts purchased themselves out in an industrial area near the 401.

I went to the soon-to-be-murdered Ontario Science Centre today for the first time in nearly 10 years and have some observations. Firstly, that it was nice and busy on a Sunday afternoon. The parking lot was basically full when I left. 🧵

Maybe also worth noting the site provides habitat for Barn Swallows which are listed under 🇨🇦’s Species at Risk Act as Special Concern, and have been found killed at the site in the past year (again, see 🧵). Their breeding activity at Ontario Place is well documented👇

What’s going on with this new loose exclusion netting on the Pods at #OntarioPlace ?

Thousands of Cliff Swallows & many Barn Swallows nest here. They’re returning to this exact spot now, and fatalities of birds being impacted have previously been recorded here. How do we monitor?

Therme will release 100,000 tonnes of carbon & use:

The gas/hr of 300 homes in 1yr
The electricity/hr of 7k homes in 1yr
The water/day of 5k homes in 1 yr

No wonder Ford Conservatives exempted the #BillionDollarBoondoggle from an environmental assessment. #onpoli #ONPlace4All

This is a contravention of Canada’s Migratory Bird Convention Act and Species at Risk Act waiting to happen. This is NOT how exclusion netting like this is meant to be used. Birds returning to their breeding grounds will very likely get tangled in it and die.
