Recent polling from Survation., for Level Up & One Small Thing, found 53% believed a new mother should not be sent to prison with her infant if a community alternative was available.

In September 2019, Rianna Cleary gave birth alone in a prison cell in HMP Bronzefield.

When the paramedics arrived, her baby Aisha was pronounced dead.
