Unjust systems are acting exactly as designed. Policy action must center what works for the people harmed most by racism and discrimination. Otherwise we will get the same old, same old crappy results - which means Black women keep working extra hard and getting much less.

Jailing/fining people for sleeping outside is not the solution to rising levels of homelessnessā€”housing is. Expanding rental assistance can help close the widening gap between incomes and rents. More from Peggy Bailey (@peggybaileydc.bsky.social) and Anna Bailey cbpp.org/blog/solutionsā€¦

Communities can do better than fining & jailing people who are unhoused.

CAā€™s Santa Clara County, where the avg home costs $1.5m, created deeply affordable housing, leading to 26,000 peopleā€Æhousedā€Æ& invested in nearlyā€Æ17,000ā€Æpeopleā€Æreceiving homelessness prevention help.
