This is just a Twitter/X poll, but almost 70% of Journalists polled are fearful of admitting to struggling for fear it will impact their work. In 2024 this is not a good look. We need to do more to support our media workers.

Want to highlight something that happened this week A NEWSPAPER OPENED! Wimmera-Mallee News printed its 1st Tuesday Sports edition.This is the same firm that when other local papers closed because of covid started a new one to keep people informed. This deserves some applause 👏

In the PEN Melbourne panel discussion on whistleblowers recently, we discussed how even an inquiry via email can lead to defamation threats. Don’t be fooled by the Lehrmann and BRS cases. Australian defamation law is horrendous and often used by silence genuine questions.
