Greg Millett of amfAR shares on today's webinar that a majority of new #mpox cases were Black and Latinx from largely metro/urban areas in the US and people living with HIV were disportionately affected. 41 percent of #mpox cases in the US were PLHIV.

'Black gay men bore the brunt of the #mpox outbreak' says Greg Millett of amfAR. Out of the 38 deaths linked to mpox in the US, 87 percent were Black men and 94 percent were people living with HIV. This outbreak exposed the blatant disparities during a public health outbreak.

Inequities of #mpox treatment and prevention in the global south will hamper progress in ending the mpox outbreak and risk increased deaths from the virus. 'Although we had more cases in the global north, we had more deaths in the global south due to inaccess', Greg Millett.

Only 23 percent of people who are at greater risk of acquiring #mpox are fully vaccinated. Greg Millett of amfAR shares a sample breakdown of rates of vaccination of Black/Latinx populations in the US.
