At 's Southeast Crater, short episodes of Strombolian explosions (lasting 10-30 min) separated by periods of total quiescence (30-60 min) are continuing since the afternoon of 19 November 2023. These moments were captured from Piano Vetore on the morning of 24 November 2023

Perhaps not so well known, but William Buckland was a HUGE supporter of Mary Anning. He pretty much always gave her credit, not only for her finds but for her interpretations of the science.

This week's comes from a little further afield. Our volunteer, Adam, made this fantastic discovery at Ringstead Bay! This huge chunk of bone is from the humerus of a pliosaur, some of the largest marine predators to have swum in our waters!

Happy to all those who celebrate ✨

Hubble captured a celestial festival of lights – a globular cluster – 30,000 light-years away from Earth, near the dense and dusty center of our own Milky Way galaxy.

On the evening of 10 November 2023, 's Southeast Crater produced an episode of increased Strombolian activity accompanied by small lava overflows. However, the activity stopped abruptly during the night, and resumed at a slower pace during the forenoon of 11 November.

One of the largest ichthyosaur skulls in existence.

This is my birthday, so here’s the massive, real skull of Cymbospondylus youngorum, a giant from the Triassic of Nevada.

Whilst in LA, I visited Natural History Museum of L.A. County as part of my Royalcom1851 research.
