Amazing to visit UVA, one inspirational model for @UCL in the 1820s, esp the secular, neo-classical academical village. History taken seriously here including recent acknowledgment of the role of enslaved labour in constructing and running the university UCL Alumni IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education & Society
The Burgon Society James I and VI invited the English universities to send burgesses to parliament, a practice which lasted 350 years. In its final form, graduates had a extra vote for university constituencies using proportional representation to chose MPs.
