We used our recently developed allylic substitution based chemical reaction cycle (nature.com/articles/s4146…) to control cucurbit[8]uril assembly by changing the charge on typical pyridine guests, allowing a switch between 1:1 and 1:2 complexes.

Do you know what an ion channel is? In 1998, medicine laureate Roderick MacKinnon succeeded in demonstrating what a potassium ion channel looks like by using x-ray crystallography. This mapping allowed MacKinnon to explain how potassium channel selectivity occurs.
