When we talk about individuals who are actively lifting and making women's footy it is what it is today, Matheson is on top of the list. A phenomenal legacy built on the pitch but what has followed will allow for other legacies to be written.

For my non-Canadian followers aren’t familiar with D. Matheson. Matheson represented Canada 200+ times, won the nation's first ever Olympic medal with a 92nd min goal winner v France and is now building Canada's first pro women's soccer league.

No one was doing, so she is.

With women’s professional hockey thriving and now with women’s professional soccer on the way, women’s sports in Canada are on the rise in a BIG way 🔥 There has never been a better time to be a sports fan!

A new announcement from Project 8 confirms that 6 teams have applied for pro club admission to Canada Soccer.

If approved, Canada's first professional women's soccer league will be ready to kick off next year with 6 teams.

Project 8 has six confirmed teams, all but guaranteeing a 2025 launch. 

The group announces that six clubs have applied to Canada Soccer seeking professional club status.

Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto have been officially announced, with Halifax the latest rumoured project.
