#OTD 29/4/1952 #RememberRCN -First of 13 Sikorsky HO4S (Horse) helicopters delivered to the Royal Canadian Navy.

#OTD 29/4/1945 #RememberRCN -U427 fired 2 torpedoes at HMCShips HAIDA & IROQUOIS, escorting RA-66. Destroyers dropped 260 DC's on U-boat, damaging ventilation system, bilge pumps & causing flooding, forcing U-427 to return to Norway. Last U-boat attacked by RCN in #WWII .

#OTD 29/4/1944 #RememberRCN -HMCShips HAIDA & ATHABASKAN attack German destroyers T24 & T27 off Ushant. HAIDA drives T27 onto French coast, T24 is damaged & fires torpedoes, sinking ATHAB -129 are killed, 83 taken POW & 44 rescued by HAIDA including 4 by HAIDA's cutter.

#HMCSMargaretBrooke departed Halifax on April 18, for a 9-week deployment on #OpCaribbe , contributing to the U.S-led Enhanced Counternarcotics Ops in the Caribbean region.

They will also participate #ExTradewinds , to strengthen partnerships, and promote human rights.

#OTD 26/4/1944 #RememberRCN -HMCShips ATHABASKAN, HURON & HAIDA attack German destroyer's T24, T27 & T29 in night battle near Ushant off French Coast, T29 is sunk & other 2 damaged. HAIDA & HURON received casualties, 1 HURON sailor killed. All 3 RCN ships reported minor damage.
