- The biggest hazard, by far, is the 3-ton vehicles designed to blunt the senses, and confer power and anonymity in a system optimized for their throughput.
- There is no way to avoid them.

You’re not stuck in traffic, you’re stuck in a cycle of car dependence maintained by state law, federal funding, local media, the engineering profession, racist land use planning, and a relentless deluge of money from automobile, defense, and fossil fuel interests.

There are some amazing people at DDOT trying to do big things to transform the District into something safer for everyone. They get just as angry when people are hurt. My frustration is with the agency's leadership blocking those staff members from doing what they know is right.

When is enough enough? At what point, do they say that the status quo is insufficient? When do the people we've entrusted with leadership decide to do something different in defense of life?

In the last hour, two people were struck by drivers in DC, one on foot and the other on bike. If we treated our streets like we do airplanes, we shut them down, diagnose the problems and only reopen them when fixes are done.

Rather than hire a school bus, it's relatively common for entire classes of Dutch children to hop on their bicycles, and cycle together to a field trip location such as a museum, swimming pool, or cultural site.

Hackney Cyclist caught one such outing in the small city of Meppel.

A better world is possible.
