If it turns out that the shots were fired by repeat offenders with active criminal justice statuses, will any laws be changed? Will the decarcerationists reconsider their policy priorities? My money is on “No.” And there isn’t a single argument that can justify that sad reality.

Enforce gun laws.
If Reed were in jail after his 2023 gun possession arrest, not only would he still be alive, but a cop (who may never police again given the injury) would not have been shot. Not mention perhaps other criminals would be less likely to carry illegal guns.
