Julie Ragbeer Brasil I know what you mean but I think it’s more than a pet peeve. It subtly reinforces the status of ‘standard’ and ‘neutral’ ways of speaking above the non standard in my opinion. Everyone knows what it means, but we need to be better at seeing what it implies.
