Absolutely worth talking about the future of the college application essay. But also: this ChatGPT- essay is generic, could easily have been written by someone with no experience of being the child of carnival workers, and reads like it finishes with no memory of where it began.

Jane Rosenzweig The blog post is definitely still on their site: openai.com/research/bette… This was a splashy blog post at the time, and I teach now to ugrads as a kind of history of genAI/LLMs. They pick up on the shift in attitude at OpenAI, for sure!

One of my students was reading about GPT2 and learned that in 2019 OpenAI decided not to release their model out of fear that it could be misused. I followed the links and couldn't find their statement on their current website, but found it archived. Interesting read.
