I only recently found out that gum disease is linked to diabetes, heart problems and worse pregnancy outcomes.
Its also linked with poverty.
We cant get healthier without addressing inequality.

Not sure about the Thatcher throwbacks but let's clearly welcome Rachel Reeves focus on labour market insecurity and regional inequality at tonight's Mais lecture. Can Labour achieve this though without committing more spending? I'd say no...
Important new report from The King's Fund
'The NHS has a role to play in addressing poverty, both as an employer and as a provider of public services [but] can only treat the symptoms of poverty; broader government, economic and civic society action is needed to treat the causes'
Proud of this project Ben Franklin and I did with Toby Lewis and David Buck
tldr: ICSs can tackle poverty by 1) Including poverty measures in shared outcomes frameworks 2) Embedding poverty into pop health strategies 3) systematically sharing poverty data between partners

.Centre for Progressive Policy's Ross Mudie telling it like it is:
'The big things that have happened since 2010 are a ...massive decreases in central government grants – and an increase in the statutory services'
Not diversity training and consultant spending ...
As ever, best to read the Office for Budget Responsibility analysis to work out whether this #Budget2024 is realistic. Key thing is unprotected depts - will they be able to deliver more than 2% real terms annual cut? This would rise to 3.6% if defence and ODA rises in line with govt ambitions.
Agree with much of this from Olly Bartrum and co - the short sighted and surface level current system of fiscal rules is making a mockery of public finances.
We need longer term thinking, a bigger role for the OBR and more scrutiny of their models too

.Child Poverty Action Group say child poverty is rising despite increasing numbers of working parents & UK is middling internationally.
This is not a sign of a functional economy!
benefit reform, early years support, good work, health prevention, childcare are ALL needed

Good new report out from Resolution Foundation laying bare the fiscal fiction of tax giveaways in the Spring Budget based on further cuts to unprotected depts. Would mean spending at 70% of 2009-2010 levels on per capita basis. Key chart below...
Interesting that The Labour Party are looking at using citizens assemblies to develop ideas around further devolution
In the citizens jury Centre for Progressive Policy ran last summer we found that there’s broad support across the public for fiscal devolution in particular
