Rain has not stopped play on the Herts Bird News Local Patch Big Weekend: Little & Arctic Tern, Osprey, Hen & Marsh Harrier & Short-eared Owl have been highlights along with other patch surprises. It’s the last big push so best of luck in adding those final bonus points!

Well done everyone taking part. This morning was only for the hardy (or foolhardy!) but some great birds have already been found. Anyone got the butterfly bonus point yet I wonder?! Keep it up - the weekend is still young! Herts Bird News

Amazingly Garden Warbler is a new species for the garden today. All the more amazing as it is species #122 and long overdue. Brief views as it stayed in the depths of the bush. Herts Bird News

Really pleased to relocate the elusive Woodchat Shrike on my Cornish ‘home’ patch on The Lizard 😊 Had to dodge over-excited bullocks but had great views to the calls of Oystercatchers & Whimbrel with a locally rare Cetti’s Warbler thrown in for good measure too! Cornwall Birds

It’s not often that the blackbird I see flying over while driving actually sports a bright white breast band! It did the decent thing & sat in a tree briefly calling loudly before flying on. This male Ring Ouzel becomes #117 for my 5 mile from home list☺️ @hertsbirds
