This is exactly what I’d expect from high path avian influenza H5N1 in many mammals. It’s a deadly virus. Any attempts to minimize the threat of this virus are irresponsible.

This virus can change easily, can spread swiftly, and cause great harm. There has never been such

Computer science students have developed an ultra-realistic simulation to illustrate the rapid spread of airborne viruses in an airport terminal and demonstrate the efficacy of countermeasures like masking and social distancing.

2 of the 4 'Four Corner states' have confirmed outbreaks. Seems unlikely that it has not spread to neighboring states. How many farms in Arizona and Utah have been tested?

Sam Clampet 🌻 Don Milton @[email protected] In most spaces mechanical is often only on when an HVAC system's thermostat or timer is adding heating or cooling.

Facilities managers sit silent or deny when confronted.

It's never surprising to me. In fact, it's rather a 'teaching moment'. No pun intended.

Horrible pun comes to mind: the cows have left the barn.

What's sad is that the world, including the US, keeps leaving the barn doors wide open by failing to invest in:

- modern pathogen surveillance
- one health (animal/human/environment) integration
- common/interoperable

This is a comprehensive look at the challenges of producing flu vaccine for a new pandemic strain - even if it is H5N1 where we have 2 decades of research. Massive amounts of H5N1 vaccine would be needed if there’s a bird flu pandemic. Can we make enough? statnews.com/2024/04/24/h5n…

On in STAT by Drs Borio & Krause--> we are behind on diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines, and cleaner air if/when this virus heads further in the wrong direction.

This is absolutely unacceptable. 'Three and a half weeks after first announcing the startling news... the government agencies involved in the investigations have not yet revealed what research shows about whether pasteurization of milk kills this specific virus.'

Currently it is only a recommendation for dairy farmers to test, purely voluntary. We have to assume, it is much, much more widespread!
