Police overreactions are a sign of weakness. Congressional hearings for college protests are a sign of weakness. The ruling class is afraid of the rising consciousness of the masses. They know this is all held together by our submission. Solidarity with the Columbia students.

What’s happening at Columbia is the kind of resistance we need to cultivate on every campus & every public space—an irrepressible, furious, joyous, effervescent refusal of genocide, a reclamation: we protest because life is precious & protecting it is our only responsibility

Activists should continue embracing that terminology, but also push the terminology of ‘anti-apartheid, anti-occupation & anti-genocide activists’ so that these words are forced into a public lexicon that refuses to acknowledge realities of violence experienced by Palestinians.

Instead, “pro-Palestinian” is used often to connote a latent threat.

We know, of course, that there is nothing inherently or objectively threatening about being pro-Palestinian - it is the most moral position you can take right now, if you embrace everything it really means.

It’s a very cynical use of language & categorization that is purposeful. “Pro-Palestinian” is, of course, an umbrella - it includes Arabs, Muslims, Christians, Black Americans, Jews, LGBTQIA, etc. But when pitted against “Jewish students” or just “Jews” - it’s made threatening,

Endless respect for the incredible organizers at Columbia. Despite operating in an environment of horrific repression—facing chemical attacks, evictions, and professors who doxx them with impunity—they remain steadfast and refuse to back down. An inspiration to us everywhere.

🇵🇸 Yesterday morning, an inspiring wave of student activism swept through McGill as courageous students reclaimed over 30 buildings on campus. Each renamed edifice now stands as a powerful testament to the Palestinian villages erased in the shadow of settler colonialism.

Almost six months have passed since the Zionist regime launched a genocidal war on the people of Gaza, massacring over 40,000 Palestinians, while escalating aggressions on Lebanon and Syria. Therefore, we reiterate: there will be no classes or business as usual until full

By 204-117, Canada’s Parliament just voted for an end to military exports to Israel. Other key demands, including recognition of the State of Palestine, were dropped from the final watered-down motion. See CJPME’s full statement: cjpme.org/pr_2024_03_18_…

If the reports are true, Canada’s reported pause on supposedly ‘non-lethal’ exports is a major admission that these military goods pose a serious human rights risk after all, and confirms that civil society was right all along in calling for an embargo. cjpme.org/pr_2024_03_15_…

Here is my latest for The Maple -- I uncover that just 12 people have been able to come to Canada from Gaza. Families are desperate thanks to a system that is plagued with problems -- not the least of which seems to be Israel's non-cooperation.

It is unconscionable that as the state of Israel actively engages in the ethnic cleansing and Gaza, any Canadian organization would sponsor events promoting illegal settlements in the West Bank which is clearly illegal under international law.

Shame of everyone involved.
