American institutions would rather cancel graduations, violently arrest students & teachers, and deploy snipers on the roofs of college campuses than let you criticize a government that’s killed 34,000 people.

This Emory Professor was charged with “battery against a police officer.”

It’s unreal but it’s what happens when you call in the police as a a substitute for actual engagement on hard questions - you know, that thing that our universities exist for….

This is violent suppression of free speech and other fundamental American rights resulting from efforts to delegitimize and criminalize criticism of Israel.

It’s an offense against our democracy and must immediately stop.

2. Take note of which law enforcement organization is depicted. Are they campus cops? City cops? Sheriff's deputies? State police? This is important.

Anyone who’s responding to college kids peacefully protesting by deploying hundreds of militarized cops or threatening to send in the national guard is escalating the situation and making EVERYONE, Jewish kids included, less safe. 1/

What's important to understand about this is that right-wing authoritarians are trying to turn campus Palestine protests into the next (their version of) BLM: a violent radical left that needs to be subdued by violence. Because that's what their base craves.

So Mike Johnson went to Columbia, held a press event directly across from the protestors, and used their reaction to claim Biden needs to send in the National Guard? Definitely not a stunt designed to hurt Biden in November. Hopefully the WH isn't stupid enough to listen to him.

This is such a sensible policy and brings us up to the kind of protections Europeans have enjoyed for YEARS.
