Three Portable Antiquities late medieval Michael Archangel badges to go with the Cotswold Archaeology one from Tewkesbury (below), plus one each British Museum, and Worms Museum. Fascinatingly, the middle one seems to have been carefully 'converted', probably to St George. #FindsFriday #MedRit

🧵Here in Durham @finds.org.uk we love Spindle Whorls & want to record as many as possible. We feel they are one of the most overlooked & 'research potential heavy' objects on the Db!
I'll add to this thread when interesting examples turn up, like the two we recorded last week...👇
I'm glad this coin was legible enough to be identified. It's a gold half-guinea of Charles II dating from between AD 1672-1684. #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/database/artef…
Yet another rarity! Few double-headed button & loop fasteners have been published & only c.22 have been recorded Portable Antiquities. Most are from northern counties. The restricted distribution may reflect a regional identity specific to the north. #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/database/artef…
This reminded of a huge double headed button & loop fasteners we recorded in 2022.
Hadn't realised their Northern significance, but have now edited the record to include Rebecca Griffiths's wise words, such is the beauty of the @finds.org.uk Db, ever evolving!

In 1986 Michael Mitchiner went out on something of a limb, attributing a late medieval ampulla design to Doncaster - given a single find there. But, since then, three more ampullae with a crowned 'u' have been recorded by Portable Antiquities, two from Doncaster. #FindsFriday #MedRit
Great spread in today’s Yorkshire Evening Post looking at the ancient Roman lead coffin that’s being prepared for display in Leeds City Museum’s upcoming Living with Death exhibition!
