After working weekends for the last five years, I am ~loving~ having Saturdays off. Met Laura Blake for coffee, grabbed lunch at LaghisEdgbaston with Bite Your Brum (She/Her) Ian McEwan, worked on my book, ran errands, and stopped by Buddha Belly for the special Thai New Year menu. Sublime! ✨

In a flash back to the golden era of streetfood, both Buddha Belly and O.P.M are at Herbert’s Yard.

Yes, that is a side portion of panang sauce to go with the fries. Yes, I am both a genius and a very naughty boy. Yes that is a quadruple whisky. It’s Saturday.

Afternoon to myself so lunching at Soi 1268 Buddha Belly - king prawn toast and Thai fried chicken curry bowl both delicious!

Leaving @saibuddabelly we spied a specials board advertising king prawn toast we thought we’d been cruelly denied. Next time that, & cocktails from Ikigai. Strangely potato-less massaman had plenty of little cubes of beef, tender from a long bath in coconut milk and mellow spices

Buddha Belly boast more awards than Lionel Messi inc, but not limited to, People's Choice at National British Street Food Awards 2016 and What's On Best Street Food 2017. A pile of fried chicken, if not exactly obviously Thai, bar some chili & coriander, demonstrated exactly why.

Nahm dtok is a spicy blood soup in central Thailand. Soi 1268’s was the
larb-adjacent salad from Isan & Lao. Aubergine replaced the usual beef, starting to shrivel from the BBQ before being pelted w soy, lime, shallot, roasted chili, mint, dill & gritty nuttiness of toasted rice

Unanimously dish of the evening at Soi 1268 from @saibuddabelly was pork pa lo; belly braised in a sweet soy based broth tickled with cinnamon and clove and reduced enough to varnish the wobbling hunks of meat, fat melding skin into flesh, joined towards the end by a duck egg.

If you haven't been to Buddha Belly in Stirchley yet. This is what you are missing out on. We have been waiting for a child free night since they opened! Best meal out EVER! Tomas Puddefoot
