Let us hope that the Revenue genuinely remember this guidance in February / March, when it comes to tax returns being filed late...

Doubt we will see such sympathy from ⁦HM Revenue & Customs⁩ again - ‘reasonable excuse’ only accepted in extreme cases and situations of severe hardship.Front page ⁦@thesundaytimes via⁩ David Byers⁩, quote by ⁦RJ.SalterBlick Rothenberg⁩ thetimes.co.uk/article/no-fin…

Another version of the name has Dutch (or I believe Frisian) origins - short form of Kaimbe, which is meant to be Frisian for fighter / warrior. Also found in low German traditionally (and hence in Dutch / German / Afrikaans still).

Worth remembering that home working can - if it involves moving across borders - have some significant tax costs for workers (and actually also their employers, though this side isn't highlighted in the article).

Scottish people relocating to Scotland during the Covid Lockdown need to be aware of the higher tax rates which can apply in Scotland:

Unemployment rate has gone up to 4.5% per ONS - which is still fairly good for those of us who grew up in the 1980s/1990s. Sadly rate in some age groups is much higher - e.g. 13%+ for the under 24s. Let's hope the Govt's job schemes help going forward.

It is good (surprising?) to hear that the ONS calculates that only 9% of the UK workforce were on furlough in the 2 weeks up until 20th September. Whilst this is still 2m plus people, hopefully this shows UK economy is coming back relatively strongly? ons.gov.uk/businessindust…

Whilst it is good to see that the UK unemployment rate hasn't grown as much (yet) as people feared, with the furlough scheme being wound down, will UK unemployment numbers increase sharply over the next few months?

Pleased to have formally my letter confirming that I'm now a member of the Irish Institute of CPAs today... Combines nicely with my membership of ICSA: The Chartered Governance Institute.

Whilst the UK is 'winding down' the furlough scheme, it is intersting to note that some other countries (e.g. Germany) are scheduled to keep their equivalent arrangements in place for another 2 years... Will the UK Govt need to rethink its arrangements in this regard?

Social Security is a 'hidden tax' and an area which could change significantly for individuals and employers within the EEA as a result of BREXIT.

My comments in this regard are available via the following article:

Pleased to have an article on the tax treatment of termination payments included in this month's edition of Governance & Compliance Magazine. Given the issues arising from Covid and the job losses this is likely to bring, it is particularly relevant.

Nice to be quoted in this article in the Times addressing the issue of people working overseas on an ad-hoc basis - e.g. in holiday homes.
