No one should be criminalised for not having a home.

Emmaus has joined Crisis and other organisations in writing to the Government, urging them to rethink proposals to fine and imprison people who are forced to sleep rough.

At Emmaus UK we've joined 36 other organisations to write to the Home Secretary, urging him to reconsider measures in the Criminal Justice Bill which would allow police to fine or arrest rough sleepers.

Great to see this covered by BBC News (UK) today.

Out in this morning with some ⁦Berm&OldSthwrkLabour⁩ legends - antisocial behaviour and homelessness rising locally and people want issues tackled after 14 years of Tory government failure (5 years propped up by the Lib Dems)

This is great to see!

Southwark Labour have already committed to building 500 affordable key worker homes - including some in my ward of London Bridge & West Bermondsey.

This new policy from Sadiq Khan will be a big step in the right direction across London.

Emmaus UK supports Crisis's campaign against plans to criminalise rough sleeping.
Instead of demonising people living on the streets, the Government should focus on addressing the causes of homelessness and supporting people affected.

Great to see that pushing power out of Whitehall and down to local leaders & grassroots growth is central to Labour’s economic project. This will be key to lifting up so many of our communities that have been help back.

I grew up on a council estate. I know firsthand how the security of a council home transforms families’ lives.

London is delivering the highest number of council homes since the 1970s.

If I'm re-elected, we'll deliver 40,000 more by the end of the decade.

We're stepping up our policy and campaigns work at Emmaus UK.

Here are reflections from last week's Homeless Link Riverside Group Parliamentary lobby on what we learnt from the main parties about ending homelessness, and what we need to push harder on👇

A rainy but productive morning in Bermondsey speaking to residents about Sadiq Khan's great action on free school meals, building affordable homes, tackling air pollution, and much more.

Lots of Labour support ahead of May 2nd 🌹

Was good to hear an update on investigations into the Devon Mansions major works on Monday night, and speak again on behalf of residents who deserve answers on why costs have risen so much, and too many aspects have been poor quality.

Progress being made but much more to do.
