Interesting study looking at how common education polygenic scores modify the effect of rare developmental delay genes. Given that the EA PGS is actually 2/3rds dynastic environment (or stratification), this suggests that environment could be a substantial compensatory force.

I had two postdoc mentors bail from the grant-funded science career. One to Big Pharma due to desire to be closer to helping people with health problems. One to NIH Program, presumably due to being exhausted from the grant chase.

6/ A significant and clinically meaningful OS benefit was observed with adjuvant pembro vs placebo:

HR 0.62; 95% CI 0.44-0.87; P = 0.005

At 48 months: 91% of pts receiving pembro were still alive vs 86% with placebo (5% absolute benefit)

Happy to share my latest preprint from Nicholas Mancuso lab. We introduce SuShiE (Sum of Shared Single Effect) model to perform multi-ancestry SNP fine-mapping for molecular traits (e.g., mRNA and Protein). (1/n) medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

People say the gut microbiome is related to how you respond to food.

Our series of randomized N-of-1 trials will try to sort out individual responses from individuals' responsiveness in terms of postprandial glycemia.

Feedback welcome!

'caQTLs and haQTLs capture regulatory variations not associated with eQTLs and explain ∼49% of the functionally annotated GWAS loci'

Been clear for a while that accessibility & histone marks provide more info for explaining & fine mapping GWAS loci than expression. 1/

💯 to this conclusion (and the rest of the piece). DIY microbiome hackers have an opportunity to demonstrate a more nimble clinical trial process and are instead choosing the path of wellness scams. But there's still time to change course.

I discussed the data behind the recent anti-cavity Lumina treatment. TLDR: while the approach looks promising and self-experimentation is cool, most of the direct data comes from small studies in rats and well... most humans are not rats.
