If you've got a fender like this on the side of your boat, please replace it with one that can be raised safely out of the way whilst cruising. If you get stuck in a lock because of one of these, you are responsible for any damage to the lock and your boat.

Yesterday I get a message from Jules Fuels Southern Division can I moor alongside for a night, well it is very handy 🤣🤣 Cere’s 1935 Star class small Woolwich alongside home boat Nautilus built in 1928 by fellows Morton and Clayton ❤️❤️

Please raise side fenders when cruising and especially in locks! Not only could you get hung up/wedged in a lock but the fenders that come off frequently foul gates and paddles putting the lock out of action and inconveniencing you and other boaters. Thank you.

Please don't cruise with side fenders down. How many can you count in this photo? Our Canal & River Trust London & SE team have spent quite a bit this year on dredging lock chambers, the amount of fenders removed has been staggering. Side fenders are for mooring only! Thank you.

It was a misty Saturday morning on the Grand Union Canal as fuel boats Bletchley and Bideford (both built in 1936) were serving customers at Grafton Regis.

Please do NOT use tyres for fenders. Our Canal & River Trust London & SE team had to remove one that was fouling the gates at Feildes Weir on the River Lee this weekend. They are hard work to remove and inconvenience your fellow boaters when their journeys are disrupted.
