Kenya Airways soars to new heights with its first operating profit in years. Despite facing challenges, passenger numbers are climbing back to pre-COVID levels, driving a turnaround in revenues.

I spoke to African Business Magazine about Kenya Airways long-term viability.

'Operating profit means they are no longer losing money on every additional passenger they fly, but is just the first step on a very long journey towards becoming a viable business'

I am quoted by James Pearson in this article on Simple Flying

'Using narrowbody aircraft allows Turkish Airlines to access marginal African markets that many of their competitors simply cannot make viable due to their larger widebody fleet types'

'Air Canada, and its government by extension, are happy to block non-stop flights due to European connection revenue from Star Alliance antitrust-immunized JV - perfect example of government-sanctioned anticompetitive activity'

One of the most remarkable developments in African aviation over the past two decades has been the substantial improvement in safety standards. Not only has the average accident rate seen a notable decline, but more and more Sean Mendis

Unfortunately my dear old friend 5Y-IRE (formerly ZS-IRE & 5X-IRE) met a rather ignominious end in Malakal, South Sudan today. No casualties thankfully.

From Avianca to DHL to SKA to Safe Air, she had some real adventures! Farewell old girl and thanks for all the memories!

Last week I appeared on CGTN Africa to discuss the boondoggle at SAA - South Africa.

It's not possible to narrate the whole sordid tale in a short news clip but here's my attempt at a brief summary why SAA is a poster child for governments never getting involved in the airline business.

My appearance on News Central TV to discuss claims that Nigeria settled all outstanding foreign exchange claims by airlines.

Spoiler alert - they haven't.

International air traffic in Nigeria remains down 15% from pre-COVID largely due to this impasse.
