Accelerate '24 abstracts close today (already extended): accelerate24.ca! Great speaker lineup such as Nadya Peek, Sergei Kalinin, Shijing Sun, Joshua Schrier, Taylor Sparks, and Kevin M Jablonka. Stay tuned for a 'Hardware Hackathon' to coincide with the conference😉

Quantum mechanics explains why babies don't want to sleep. You put them in the crib, and quantum confinement increases their ground state energy level.

The important thing about management is that anyone can learn corresponding vocabulary and use it convincingly in pursuance of certain goals. But only people who have records of building successful projects as a team leads understand what it actually means and can use it properly

Many people are hating on this video, but I actually think it's a fascinating display of the two very distinct modes that exist to relate with reality: mimesis vs. first principles thinking.

95% of people operate by mimesis. Truth doesn't matter to them as much as getting…

Cheap open source automation hardware will have a much larger impact on the pace of biology research than any single computational model or experimental pipeline

Interesting experience - just got the NSF proposal returned without review because my table of 500 (!) collaborators was incomplete due to some 2024 preprints. Is it a common experience ?

Science is very robust towards scientific arguments. However, it is very defenseless against politics. If you add 10% of politics into scientific discourse, you get 100% of politics (and no science).

The reason why the great state of Tennessee is not going to have its (mini) Silicon Valley:
- the daycare for a child in Knoxville comes with a 2-3 years waiting list (I hate to think about how it works for family planning)
- no options to get insurance for retired relatives

Science should have a gradation table like DnD games. One axis scientist -> engineer, another lawful -> chaotic. I have just spent a day interacting with a chaotic engineer

Wrong.

We can and do un-discover technologies.

It has been:
▸ 20 years since a commercial plane flew supersonic
▸ 30 years since America brought >1 nuclear reactor online in a year
▸ 50 years since astronauts have gone beyond Low Earth Orbit

1) Far more people should be building and funding fab 2.0 🙋‍♂️ 2) Today’s fabs are general purpose only if you want small, performant silicon … and have 💰 3) There are many other valuable parameters to optimize around: manufacturing speed, footprint, component diversity, etc.
