My thoughts to women today who are reliving horrors due to the news

Brittany Higgins has revealed that last time she was cross examined it resulted in her trying to take her life & spending a week in hospital.

What makes me really sick is the dissonance between the supposed civility of the court - what with their pomp and ceremony, and fancy dress robes (in criminal matters) - & the absolute barbarity of making a sexual assault complainant re-live in detail every second & every choice.

I want to give a shout out right now to all the sexual assault survivors out there.

Every one of you.

When I was assaulted, I was sent to get blood tests to check for STIs. I was so unwell that they were unable to find a vein, they wrote me referral for a later blood test and told me how important it was. Later, I told everyone I had gotten it.
I lied.

I’ve long admired Brittany Higgins but it wasn’t till today I realised just how incredible, brave, articulate, clear-thinking and baddass she really is and any of us could only dream of having her courage, intelligence and grace under similar circumstances.

I hope that media outlets ask this question.
