Last year we applied for Active Travel England funding, but got much less than we hoped for.

That was a fair reflection of where we were on our journey.

Today, we have been given £4.86 million for improvements to walking and wheeling across South Yorkshire 🥳

8 in 10 parents & carers say zebra crossings on side roads would make them feel safer walking their children to school. Today we've announced new side road zebra trials to help West Midlands Combined Authority and Greater Manchester Combined Authority with their devolution deals. I think you’ll find The Beatles have a stronger claim so Beatle lines or beelines for short? ‘Taking a Beeline to school’ 🤔

As part of our Plan for Drivers, we’re encouraging local authorities to support the police with rolling out noise cameras to help create quieter neighbourhoods and safer roads.

Hear from the experts on what noise cameras are and how they will help local communities👇

🧵As part of our Active Travel plans for SY we want to create more opportunities for wheeling, walking & cycling.

That includes allowing kids to get to & from school in healthy & safe ways.

It was a pleasure to visit Hunter's Bar Junior today to see their School Street in action...

Fab to hear this discussed on BBC Radio Sheffield yesterday when our member Faith highlighted the need for School Streets so families can safely walk or wheel the school run and so pupils exposure to air pollution is reduced. It's not the entire solution but it's a good start!😊

SAFE ROADS: The Safe System requires roads that are forgiving of human errors. Our roads need clear road markings, appropriate signage, & well-designed junctions as well as traffic calming measures to reduce speeds in high-risk areas.

Great article highlighting the need for a redesign of Sheffield's many wide flared junctions which are dangerous and stressful for pedestrians and prevent residents from walking their essential journeys in safety

'If speed tables are so good, why are drivers so mad?'

Because speed tables slow down drivers, drivers who have been conditioned to speed all the time.

'If drivers are mad, shouldn't speed tables be removed?'

No. Slowing drivers to a speed that's appropriate for the context
