Post disaster trauma involves reliving fear of imminent death and knowing that you have gone into fugue state, giving yourself over to likely imminent death.The parallels between disaster trauma and women’s’ birth trauma feels overwhelming to me tonight. Devastating.

Too often women have been told, ‘the baby is alright, that’s all that matters’.
With an understanding of the long-term impact of trauma must come recognition that physical safety is the bare minimum of what should be expected in maternity care.
