The deteriorating situation in Afghanistan is deeply concerning.

It represents an immediate threat to Afghanis but also a threat to regional and global stability.

The UK government must bring our allies together and agree on a joined-up approach to support the Afghan people.

Diana was a great servant to the party and was our regional President for many years. She was a formidable politician, a devout Liberal, a kind and wise friend to all of us, and a wonderful wife to Alan Beith. All our love and sympathy to Alan and to Diana’s daughters.

This is tremendously sad news for everyone who had the good fortune of befriending Diana, but especially for Alan and all of her family. Diana had one of the finest political minds and I feel incredibly lucky to have learned so much from her. I will miss her greatly.

Obviously fault mainly lies with the government for all of this but really got to question why UK scientists have been so eager to buck the global trend on everything from introduction of lockdown to use of masks and now distancing.
