There are several species of ray living in Dorset’s seas and the Undulate Ray is perhaps the prettiest. Its brown upper side is covered in a delicate pattern of white swirls and dots. The name comes from the undulating edge of the fins when swimming.bit.ly/3qf2jpi

Sugar kelp is often found washed up on the beach by rough seas. It grows on lower shore rocks and in the shallows. Its claw-like holdfast anchors it to the seabed and the frond is long, wavy and brown with a crinkly appearance. bit.ly/3qf2jpi
