As Taiwan Foundation for Democracy turns 20, NEDemocracy honored Taiwan President 蔡英文 Tsai Ing-wen with the Democracy Service Medal.

International and local partners and friends gathered in Taipei to celebrate the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy’s 20th Anniversary today. We thank you for all your partnership and support in the last two decades.

Today, we gather here to remember those who perished in the Holocaust, as well as the suffering of all touched by this tragedy. It is only through sharing the memories of the Holocaust victims that we can reflect on the lessons of this dark moment in human history.

The TFD today co-hosted the “2023 International Holocaust Remembrance Day” event with the ISECO & German Institute Taipei. 蔡英文 Tsai Ing-wen delivered remarks at the event in which TFD Chairman You Si-kun, Control Yuan President Chen Chu & Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu participated.

On 3/29, Taiwan Foundation for Democracy hosted Freedom House President Michael Mike Abramowitz to present 2023 Freedom in the World index, and the opening of their new Taipei office. Taiwan was rated “Free” with a score of 94. J. Michael Cole @jmichaelcole1 of CIFA at International Republican Institute served as discussant.

Proud to see #Taiwan rated by CIVICUS Monitor as having an open civic space for the 4th year in a row. We will continue to safeguard the freedoms of association, peaceful assembly & expression that make Taiwan a vibrant & resilient democracy.

While #Taiwan leads in gender equality in Asia, much work remains to be done. This Taiwan Gender Equality Week, in parallel with UN Women’s #CSW67 , our focus is on science & technology, & paving the way for more women & girls in STEM.
