Andrew Thornton I went to the final meeting of the Old Contemptibles Association in London and the very first and last not to have an Old Contemptible there. The only veteran was Jack Gearing of Gallipoli note.

Very sad to find out this afternoon that Teddy Noyes has died. She loved the Chums of The Old Contemptibles' Association and did so much to keep their memory green. I'm sure her favourite, Bill Thomson M.M., has welcomed her already.

Taff And so have you, Taff. But now there are a lot more people who are also taking an interest which can only be a good thing.

Taff Very sad to find out about Teddy. I last saw her a month ago and, although she wasn't very well, she lit up when we spoke about her Chums. She did so much to keep their memory and legacy alive.

Taff That's very sad news. We first met Teddy when she organised an Old Contemptibles commemoration at the Royal Hospital Chelsea for the 80th Anniversary of the outbreak of the Great War. A lovely lady.

I was very sorry to hear that Teddy Noyes has died.
Teddy was an Honorary Chum and a great friend who I have known for nearly forty years.
Her love for The Old Contemptibles and her support for the Khaki Chums and Great War Huts was unwavering.
Rest in Peace, Teddy xxx

Knowledge, awareness and understanding of Britain's maritime past and the Royal Navy is completely evaporating from UK national memory and will only worsen. The public have also been purposefully misguided to 'boil down' military history to several military skirmishes.

I spent this afternoon in the Great Chamber at The Charterhouse for Betjeman's Banana Blush: 50th Anniversary. The wonderful Zeb Soanes recited Betjeman’s much-loved verse, accompanied by the wondrous Chris Warner Ensemble. Magical! 💛

Since 1989, nearly a quarter of East Germans have left what was the GDR. Journalist Sabine Rennefanz is one of them. We talked about what it's like to be from a country that doesn't exist anymore and what it means to be East German today.
