On some days when I feel poetry is useless since it cannot stop a bullet mid-air or stop a bomb from turning an amusement park into a desert field, I remember that although poetry cannot save us, at least not in literal sense, it reminds us that we are capable of being saved.

idk maybe this is revisionist/rose colored glasses of me but I like to think even rejections are steps in the right direction because SOMEBODY saw my name and if even one line struck them, there's a chance they'll remember me the next time I submit? does that make any sense??

I came to poetry/academia very accidentally and very recently so there is much of the “canon” and many “well known” poets I have never encountered (working on it)
