Doing ecological studies during a biodiversity crisis is difficult. In 2002 I began studying Marsh Tits in an ancient woodland to see how a functioning population worked. After 10 yrs I realised I was now documenting their slide towards local extinction:

Been working in the biology lab at the University of Koblenz 🇩🇪 to understand some differences in frogs or Rwanda. We have species that are so cryptic and have been confusing the measurements of diversity. Hoping to remove these biases.

Heard - but didn't see - the first swift of the year yesterday. That's not unusually early, since mid/late April is typical.

Publication dropped today! We investigated how novel colorations in different wildlife species elicit varying responses in people influencing human-wildlife interactions. Major thanks to all my co-authors especially my co-lead Sam Kreling. Great job!

Female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. She started in Central America, Mexico, or the Caribbean, made it all the way to Chicago, and was needlessly killed by a Chicago window. The 4 to 6 babies she was to have will never be born.

🚨New paper!!🚨Fantastic work by Hank Sharpe on the skull anatomy of our wee Edmontosaurus, nicknamed Gary. I discovered Gary in 2017, but it was a major team effort finished off by Annie McIntosh, Mark James Powers and an army of volunteers.
