This week in 1916 the British surrender at Kut El Amara. Over 13,000 men surrendered at Kut, including some from the 2nd Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment.

This Photograph shows Officers and Men of the 39th Regiment of Foot in the Citadel in Quebec, Canada. Although the date of the photo is unknown we know from regimental records that its form the 19th century.

We are delighted to announce we will be hosting a 1940s themed dance as part of our D-Day 80 programme. The ‘D-Day Dance’ will take place on the 25th May 2024. The evening will take you back in time to 1940s Dorchester with a live swing band, themed decoration and bar.

This week in 1856 the Victoria Cross (VC) was instituted by Royal Warrant. Since its inception the jewellers Handcocks & Co have been responsible for making very VC. To this day it remains the joint highest award for gallantry in the British Military alongside the George Cross.
