Based on a recent report of large hail in Oxfordshire, the TORRO (Tornado & Storm Research Organisation) discussion has been updated to reflect a continuing risk, especially for parts of the S Mids in the next hour or so

24th March 1840 - on this date 184 years ago, one of the (thankfully) few recorded UK tornado fatalities occurred when Henry West was blown off the roof of the then under-construction Reading Station.

There is a plaque in his memory at the station - I think it is on platform 7.

We are pleased to announce that TORRO will hold a special 50th Anniversary Conference on Saturday 5th October at the University of Reading also marking the 100th anniversary of the Thunderstorm Census Organisation which became part of TORRO in 1982.

Following a site investigation TORRO can confirm that Gosport was hit by a probable tornado, rated T1, on 30th December 2023. torro.org.uk/research/torna…

Whilst the maximum intensity is still being assessed TORRO can confirm based on a site investigation that Venn Ottery & Tipton St John were hit by a tornado yesterday afternoon.
