Why are wages flatlining and taxes rising? What's left our children unable to afford a home & our neighbours relying on foodbanks? More importantly how do we turn around Great Britain's decline? Answer to that and much more out in just 2 months. Pre-order: waterstones.com/book/great-bri…

This is very welcome movement from UKHospitality - recognising that workers should have a right to a contract that reflects their normal hours

The Kinder Scout Mass Trespass took place 1932, organised by Manchester communist leader and Jewish anti-fascist Benny Rothman, secretary of the British Workers' Sports Federation. The Peak District was designated the UK’s first national park in April 1951.

Apparently a 0.5% GDP uplift in defence spending is “fully funded” even though there is precisely zero increase in overall spending plans (which already didn’t remotely add up). This is deeply, and depressingly, unserious stuff.

The R&D budget = capital spending that punters don't see. The background here is that between the start of the next Parliament and 2028-29, capital spending as a share of GDP is set to fall by one third = £26 billion cut vs staying constant as % GDP

It goes without saying that if you really think defence spending has to rise to 2.5% GDP (or higher if you're Liz Truss) maybe you don't want to keep promising large tax cuts?
