Still need an ID on this whale please and thank you!
I’m the photographer who took the photographs. On the whale tour the guide said it was a minke whale but I wanted to be sure bc there were also right whales in the area. Please help or repost?

Is this a combination of The Scream by Munch and Starry Night by van Gogh?

(No, it's actually a cross-section of a fin whale ovary, Slijper 1966)

Behold! My grad seminar course for this quarter, inspired by Trevor Branch w/ more . The students voted on this final schedule, 'fishing down the food web', 'fishing forage fish', and 'fish pain' not making the final cut (I know, I know). What topic would you add??

Hey reviewers (talking to me as well): if you come across a really interesting paper, have you considered just saying it should be accepted without requesting a ton of additional onerous analyses that don't change the message at all?

All fish killed for 60 miles.
Still only one of the largest five fish kills recorded.
The largest five in Iowa state, not even in the US as a whole.

Now seeing a majority of students using ChatGPT (line for line) on their midterm for my class. Never said no, but I do feel a bit violated I guess... What are others doing to not totally restrict AI, but to make sure students are still learning the concepts of coding?

Almost all of my research is in the latter category because ecological data is very messy and has high variance and low explanatory power

Causal inference: considers the assumptions, study designs, and estimation strategies that allow researchers to draw causal conclusions based on data

Casual inference: if you look at these points you can kind of see this pattern over here maybe? No?

I'm honestly not sure what the problem is. Fewer postdocs because they have found high-paid jobs seems like a success story to me. I mean you do a postdoc to get a good job, right? RIGHT?

I guess we have reached the point where I automatically assume every paper I cite is 'Author et al.'... just had to correct that for a paper that shockingly only had two authors.

Ironically, the first citation of our paper about how tweeting does not cause increases in citations, is 100% because a journalist saw the tweets about our paper. Nice piece in nature
