It's been 3 years since Joyce Echaquan died in a QC Hospital.

Joyce's Principle has not been adopted at the federal or provincial level, and the Quebec government still refuses to acknowledge systemic racism.

Things to think about as we paint everything orange this week.

Instead of policing students’ names, how about Government of Saskatchewan work on updating our education curriculum for the digital age? Create the leaders of the tomorrow instead of repackaging the bigotry of today.

That would be leadership.

School is often our only safe place - and Scott Moe and Government of Saskatchewan are bringing more BULLYING into the classroom.

We should all be amplifying Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation right now as they fight back against Government of Saskatchewan homophobic and transphobic attack on students across the province.

Government of Saskatchewan This is homophobia and transphobia dressed up as 'parental rights'. The SK government is playing politics with kids' lives. Pathetic.

Government of Saskatchewan Shameful. This policy will increase conversion 'therapy' practices while encouraging victims to stay silent about their abuse.

This illegal and discriminatory policy has no place in Canada. The right to exist is universal - no one needs consent to have human rights.

What a disgusting abuse of power from Government of Saskatchewan. Scott Moe and his government are BULLYING queer and trans students - as if school isn’t hard enough when you’re different! Shameful.

Seeing all the videos of #OshaeSibley dancing & seeing protesters vouging in support, made me think of all the little Black, Queer boys out there & what it means to find joy in the simplest things like dancing. We won’t let bigots dim their light. Queer lives matter. RIP Oshae

This is why it's important to conduct assessments (Equity Audits, Staff Census) to understand the extent of the issues and share those results with staff.

If you want managers and staff to engage in equity work, they need to understand there is a problem and a reason to change.
