The Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently released data showing #AlcoholSpecificDeaths in 2022 were 4.2% higher than in 2021 and 32.8% higher than in 2019.

In Parliament, I asked Andrea Leadsom MP Department of Health and Social Care to consider a stand-alone alcohol strategy based on this concerning trend.

“People have this perception that introducing children to drinking is a good way of teaching them safer drinking. This is untrue. The earlier a child drinks, the more likely they are to develop problems with alcohol in later life.” - Dr Katherine Severi

The latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) #Alcohol Specific Deaths Figures for the UK show another record high number of deaths at 10,048.

The data confirms that deaths have risen at a slower rate in Scotland than England, likely due to the protective effective of #MUP .
