UNAD - Deaf people in Uganda UBOS Uganda Bureau of Statistics This is good news. Did you have any reporter..
Today, we engaged the UBOS Uganda Bureau of Statistics & provided input/recommendations to ensure a disability inclusive National Population Census 2024. Consensus reached on modalities to respond to the needs of #deaf people during the census activity. Meeting brought together MPs, OPDs & UBOS.
To me, the hardest part about being deaf is that, no matter how educated I am, no matter how competent I am I will always be looked down upon when it comes down to things that actually matter, such as a job and this shakes my confidence
Will it ever get better?
#BetterTogether
I bumped into a group of deaf pple at a leisure event. I was amazed at how they have fun spending cash, interacting into stuff traditionally enjoyed by the hearing. I was amazed by the UgSL prowess exhibited by Nyamwiza Hope & Timina Wasike. I congratulate them for that passion
We held an engagement with Abilis-säätiö at our Premises. Discussed issues pertinent to deaf pple including communication barriers, reproductive health vulnerabilities & inability to access formal education. We appreciate Abilis Foundation for supporting our capacity development.
Today, we joined UK in Uganda 🇬🇧 🇺🇬 , celebrating the International Day of Persons with #Disabilities . As OPDs, we discussed opportunities & challenges of working on #disability inclusion & how the British High Commission can set up engagement with the disability movement in #Uganda .
Yesterday, I spoke to Students with Disability at Makerere University University. I sought for their input to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) ordinance for pple with #disability . Focus was on life after campus. I thank the Makerere Students Guild Minister for disability Hon. Rinah Marion N. For championing this activity.
Some insights from 2023 and prospects for 2024 in my work as ED UNAD - Deaf people in Uganda.
I reiterate that sign language is core in addressing challenges experienced by #deaf people. Thanks for your support. #Inclusion #TogetherWeWin .
Great also to ensure meaningful representation of deaf people amongst country delegations #Inclusion
Wishing you and your family love, peace, and happiness this festive season and throughout the coming year. Happy Holidays!
- I remain, Robert Nkwangu Y.K. Lutaaya.
