A is also for Armadale - because it's our only branch photo with a cat. The first Armadale Co-operative Society started in 1861 -it's customers were mostly miners from the nearby collieries. Shut in 1868, a new society opened in 1871 had more long lasting success.

Our new Co-op of the week starts with A for Aberdeen. This was a Norco co-op. The Northern Co-operative Company (1861-1993) was one of the largest consumer co-ops not to be a member of the SCWS or the CWS.
