Harrowing and tragic findings. Today more children are homeless in temp accom than ever before - 142,490 in total

It's utterly shameful to allow kids to grow up in these conditions

This crisis can be solved & we can end child homelessness but to do so, we need a

Great piece of analysis from National Housing Federation Shelter. Investing in social housing will create a much needed boost to the economy whilst tackling the housing crisis head on. Building more is a no brainer!

Within 11 years the initial government funding to build the homes would be fully paid back. Over a 30 year period, building 90,000 social homes results in a £12bn profit for the taxpayer

Important and timely from the CMA. The private development model will not deliver the homes the country needs.

We need a long term plan to increase affordable supply.

Really good series and a pleasure to co tribute. Thanks Tortoise & Lloyds Banking Group for the deep dive on housing. The grim stats out today show just how needed this work is. Brilliant to hear Susan Aktemel Rhys Moore and so many other inspiring experts.

Powerful speech from Keir Starmer tonight - talking about the scandal of child homelessness and the importance of a decent home as a foundation in life.

Pleased to take part in this excellent series. I talk about the need for a long term housing plan, a stable policy environment, and the impact of building safety costs on the social housing sector. Thanks to Lloyds Banking Group for taking this on.

Great report which is very clear about the need for long-term thinking:

'...a government eager to address the problems we outline here should first fix short-termism – primarily through changes to the fiscal framework and strong political direction.'

I do think the change in political tone and urgency we are going to see on this next year will be abrupt. If Lab win a majority we go from a Con govt whose base are largely insulated from housing crisis to a Lab govt whose base is drawn from those hit hardest. Massive shift in…

In case you missed it: the government allocated £6bn in funding to help cut energy use and bills in a million homes from 2025 to 2028. The £6bn has been allocated through several pots of grant funding, some of which is applicable to National Housing Federation members: housing.org.uk/news-and-blogs…

The focus is understandably always on young adults falling home ownership, but they also have far less access to social housing. You need both trends to understand why millennials at age 30 were FOUR times more likely to be renting privately than babyboomers were at that age
