Recent changes to the Highway Code introduced a ‘hierarchy of road users’ This means, road users who have the potential to cause most harm such as drivers of cars, vans and lorries, are responsible for taking care around those that would be most injured in a collision.

There is a shared responsibility to keep everyone safe on our roads. Match your speed to the conditions & ensure you can stop well within the distance that you see to be clear. On country roads there could be a group of cyclists, a horse rider or pedestrians around the next bend.

There are new changes to the Highway code to help protect pedestrians on our roads, especially our rural ones where there are no pavements.

Allow at least 2 metres (6.5 feet) of space and keep to a low speed when passing people walking on the road.

As the bike season begins, Drivers, please look out for motorcyclists.

The most common recorded contributory factors for motorcycle collision are failing to look properly and failing to judge the other person’s path.

In Warwickshire the majority of motorcycle collisions occurred at a T-junction. Shiny Side Up Partnership have created a video to show how to protect yourself from becoming a statistic and a reminder to drivers to always look out.

When did you last do a 'spanner check' on all the nuts and bolts, on your bike? Going over them all and checking tightness is a great chance to inspect all those places on your bike that you don't normally look or get to. And help you get your head into 'bike mode' again.

Put your phone out of sight in a bag or glove box or the boot when you are driving so you don’t get tempted to check it or simply switch your phone off.
Although legal, hands free use is just as distracting as handheld phone use so please put it away.

You wouldn’t drink & drive so why drive distracted?  The effects of distraction on driving are very similar to those of alcohol, slower reaction times, failure to notice hazards, bigger stopping distances, poor lane discipline, failure to use indicators/mirrors, risk of crashing

Do you use a mobile phone when driving? You can't use the excuse of trying to keep your job to justify using a handheld mobile while driving as it actually puts your job at risk. Its a £200 fine & 6 points if caught & that could mean losing your licence if within 2 years.
