The #Aberfan Disaster occurred #OnThisDay in 1966, when a colliery spoil tip on the hill above the village slipped, engulfing the local school & other nearby buildings. A total of 144 people (116 children & 28 adults) were killed in this dreadful, heartbreaking tragedy. #Aberfan

Historic Vids My dad was a landslide expert and he came to South Wales after the disaster to work on stabilising tips.
Even to this day we have coal tips collapsing in South Wales. Our industrial past still haunts us and dealing with them is an expensive task.
