A6: 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's launch is only the beginning – now that 988 has a wider reach, its network of crisis centers are also facing growing demand for their services. These centers need our support, including federal and state funding, and more. #BeThere

We always talk about 988 to participants of our Zero Suicide Academies, Workshops, and Communities of Practice. We also include 988 as a way to help with transitions in care for individuals.

A5: We hope to see a strengthened data collection process. We not only want to know how many individuals are calling 988, but also determine which communities are calling (or not) and track whether there are different outcomes for different communities. #BeThere

Building more capacity. There is so much need. We need to continue to fortify those who are answering the phones. #BeThere #SPM23

We need to make sure that funders and grantors prioritize research & development of interventions for minoritized populations. It's not enough to say we are focused on equity. We must show concrete actions and evaluate our efforts to keep ourselves accountable. #bethere #SPM23

Understanding that suicidal thoughts and behaviors can come from experiences of #racism and #discrimination faced by minoritized people. And developing interventions that address those experiences. #beThere #SPM23

There is such a stigma still present surrounding suicide, mental health disorders, etc. When we can normalize talking about it, we can create spaces where people feel comfortable reaching out for help and sharing their stories. This is necessary for prevention. #BeThere #SPM23

A3: Talking is the first step to preventing suicide. We might worry that saying the wrong thing will make it worse. So, we end up not saying anything, but even a few kind words can make the difference in connecting someone to help. It’s time we #TalkAwayTheDark . #BeThere

People need to find a way to be comfortable talking w/ someone who has thoughts of suicide. If we can connect with them without jumping into emergency mode then we can connect, support, and help instead of passing them on to someone else (you may or may not be helpful).
