I think C-SPAN should keep control of the cameras on the house floor. It makes our democracy more accessible, understandable, and exciting. Let the people see Democracy in action. #FreeCSPAN
Just finished my first book of the year: Tracy Kidder's phenomenal ROUGH SLEEPERS, following Dr. Jim, Boston's Healthcare for the Homeless program, and the many people — patients, people, and staff — who make up the program. Not to be missed.
Best book I read this year? Michael Bennett, novelist & filmmaker' incredible BETTER THE BLOOD (out in NZ in '22, here in early Jan). Do not miss this procedural with a Māori detective focusing on indigenous land rights. ❤️it so much I'm celebrating #libfaves22 AND #LibraryReadingWed LibraryReads
I also loved, loved, LOVED Mur Lafferty's STATION ETERNITY. There's a lot going on in this sidekick-first contact-murder mystery-space opera, but it all comes together in the most FUN way. Becky Chambers fans will like. #libfaves22
Fallen behind again w/ #libfaves22 , so, another two-fer. Let's start with just Cat Sebastian. I ❤️d every book of hers I read this year (hello, PERFECT CRIMES OF MARIAN HAYES!), but I really fell for the Page & Sommers books — 2022 brought the 2nd in the series, THE MISSING PAGE.
Today in #libfaves22 : Kate Atkinson's SHRINES OF GAIETY. Multiple story lines cross in 1920s London. Brilliant.
Today in #libfaves22 , I'm going to highlight Zoe Archer/Eva Leigh's Last Chance Scoundrels series — two of the three came out in 2022, and I loved them both: GOOD GIRL'S GUIDE TO RAKES (Kieran) & HOW THE WALLFLOWER WAS WON (Finn). Thank you, Eva Leigh!
And then to catch up to today's #libfaves22 post: PRAYER FOR THE CROWN SHY by Becky Chambers. I am so enamored of these gentle, contemplative Monk & Robot books. In fact, it's probably time to give both of these short treasures a re-read.
Followed up by THE VIOLENCE by Delilah S. Dawson has left the building. Epidemic apocalyptic fiction about women rising up in retribution? Yes. Reminded me of THE POWER by Naomi Alderman, but more chaotic and American. #libfaves22
Missed a few #libfaves22 posts due to traveling, but in playing catch-up: @bankstirregular's THE CHANGE. Post-menopausal witchy murder mystery? It's the book I never knew I wanted, but I could not put down.
Today in #libreads22 , @akaRachelReid's 'cute smut about hockey players' THE LONG GAME, book six in the series, which brings us a happy ending for Shane and Ilya. Delicious.
Bringing some joy to your timeline & increasing your TBR pile: it's #libfaves22 time! Today I start with @priyafsingh's HOW THE OTHER HALF EATS (actually published in late 2021). An in-depth look at the ways food, hunger, and comfort intersect here in the US.
Library staff: This year's countdown of library favorites starts 12/5! Count down your 10 favorite (not best! favorite!) books published in 2022, 1 per day. TITLE in caps, tag #libfaves22
