'Data is powerful but incomplete.'

In a new Issues in Science and Technology essay, C. Thi Nguyen (@add_hawk) argues that is inherently limited, and that data users should learn how to interrogate and interpret it rather than simply treating it as objective: ow.ly/HiXF50R4vXs

Data is inherently limited, C Thi Nguyen writes. “And these limitations aren’t accidents. They are built into the core of what data is. The methodology of data requires leaving out some of our more sensitive and dynamic ways of understanding the world.” Read: issues.org/limits-of-data…

Some truly gorgeous notes here on neurodiversity, and learning to manage your oddball mind as a kind of relationship repair with yourself.

One of my all-time fave movie-watching memories was being on a 7-hour flight. After an hour or so, some guy gave up on a movie he was watching, and presumably took a punt on a new kids animation. The Lego Movie.

Soon he was chuckling. Then giggling. Then LAUGHING… 1/6🧵 👇

I’ve seen people post this. Easy to assume that this is explained my animosity toward those who are unhoused, but after reading a bit about it, to me it seems evil in a more banal sort of way (1)

So there’s this one tattoo design that’s pretty popular.
A wolf face on one side and a skull on the other side.

I love this tattoo design because the message behind it is just so unintentionally GREAT....🧵

> Betty, filled with spiritual radiance, said, ‘All the flowers are beautiful.’
> ‘Ah,’ said the teacher, blocking her, ‘but this flower is especially beautiful.’
> Betty rolled on the ground screaming, and it took a while to calm her.

Talking with spouse about weird subtle flexes in different activities/hobbies and she said that a subtle gardener's flex is to be like, 'This plant just showed up and I ignored it and now it's beautiful' and we decided this was a 'zen flex' and I now I want more examples.

The best thing I’ve seen all year might be this clip of Elliot Smith awkwardly showing up on a kids-and-puppets morning talk show and the just… doing it.
